LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification, an internationally recognized standard of excellence, provides independent, third-party verification of design and construction strategies aimed at achieving high performance in the areas of human and building environmental health. LEED certification is awarded by the Canada Green Building Council.

BOMA BESt (Building Environmental Standards), a national program launched by the Building Owners and Managers Association in 2005, is a national environmental recognition and certification program for existing commercial buildings. The program includes standards for energy and environmental performance based on accurate, independently verified information.
